The build job succeeds, then fails while trying to publish the Clover coverage results.

It looks like the copy fails, and then the parsing error messages are caused by trying to parse a truncated XML file. The XML file is indeed truncated.

We thought at first that this was a problem with NFS, as we mostly copy artifacts to an NFS mount. Then we saw the same errors while copying from one directory to another on the same local filesystem.

The copy is from the slave to the master.

Different builds are affected differently. Some do not seem to have the problem, but most do. One job fails 80% with this error.

This appears to be similar to the problems reported on copying Cobertura coverage results, but not exactly. That is still present in 1.409.1.
