UnixLifecycle.<init> fails with mysterious EOFException

      When I go to /safeRestart on one server, I get

      java.io.EOFException

	hudson.lifecycle.UnixLifecycle.<init>(UnixLifecycle.java:52)
	hudson.lifecycle.Lifecycle.get(Lifecycle.java:93)

      This seems like too low-level an error. If there is something about this version of Solaris, or the way Hudson is installed, which prevents automatic restart, then it should be explained with a clear error message.
