Ability to remove a Promotion on a promoted build

Once a build is promoted there seems to be no simple way to remove the promotion and/or the colored "Star" symbol indicating the promotion.

          Definitely want this too.
          Accidental promotions are currently permanent.
Is there any manual procedure to remove promotions?

Related, also need related promotions to be deleted when a build is deleted.

          Thanks

+1 vote for this. We use promotions extensively for workflow purposes, and often the workflow has to be restarted and erroneously triggered promotions needs to be deleted.

Really hoping for a fix for this

I am a newbie but I would consider writing a PR for this if I had some pointers.
Before doing so, I think we should clarify scope. I think we could do this in parts.

Part-1: Remove the star icon, just revert to regular. -> I should certainly be able to help implement that.

Part-2: Undo particular actions. This seems much more complex and would require matching items for each promotion action? Perhaps a simpler way would be: provide new custom actions, copying all the choices from the 'promote' into the 'demote' section of codes.

          Do we agree on this?

ps the freedom sponsors url gives 404. I'm curious to see one of those sometime!

          @annetheagile This sounds great!

In our workflows, the reversing the actions of a promotion is not so important.
          Important would be:

          1. removing the build in the links via any promotion based URL (this is key for our build pipelines)
          2. removing the visual indications (icon etc...)

Had the same issue, work-around for me was to add another process "demote", which adds a different color star (red), and clean up the files that were previously "promoted".

It is a bit inconvenient, as there are now 2 stars on the promoted and then demoted builds - gold, for being promoted, and red, for been demoted and deleted. It would be useful if there is an action "remove star" or something in the promote/demote process. This way, the promote process can check and eventually remove potential red stars, and the demote process can remove potential gold stars.

I know it has been a while, but annetheagile or besho, have either of you found ways of doing this?  It would be really nice to just be able to remove the star...

          Thanks!
