erik_hakansson short of implementing folders in Blue Ocean, would a fast search on the dashboard like JENKINS-38982 do the trick for you?

That would certainly improve things, but folders would still be preferable as that would bring our use-case from perhaps 300+ items to about 20.

While a fast search feature would be very welcome to find a specific job quickly (whether in a folder or not), sometimes you simply want the overview that folders grant. That's why we use folders at all, rather than displaying all 300+ jobs on the dashboard. It works as a categorization and it improves overview.

We don't aim to replicate the Folders functionality at this time in Blue Ocean. We are looking at other ways that will make it easy to find and organize your jobs, such as fast search (JENKINS-38982).

Okay, better than nothing, I guess, but I really do consider searching separate from browsing.

This is the same as the issue with the Windows 8 "start menu" that heavily impaired usability when having a lot of installed applications. The Windows 8 start menu displayed all installed applications in a flat view, instead of folders. There too, there was a search/filter functionality but that means you have to know the exact name of what you're looking for ahead of time, rather than browsing a specific category.

I'm really happy that you will implement the fast search functionality, but again, I see it as an entirely different feature that solves a different problem.

jamesdumay Is there any way that this request will be reconsidered in the future? Our team of 300+ engineers is using Jenkins with a project folder structure with hundreds of pipelines (and growing). Without being able to collapse pipelines into folders in Blue Ocean similar to how it is when navigating Jenkins regularly, it is very difficult to find the pipelines we are looking for (Thats why we recently switched to using a folder structure that makes it quick and easy to find what we are looking for). Of course I see there is a newly added smart search function, but that means that the list of pipelines in the main view is essentially useless without being able to collapse folders(We would be forced to use smart search or do a lot of scrolling and looking). On top of that many of our pipelines have the same exact names but are in different folders according to what project they belong to. I agree with erik_hakansson in that smart search is an entirely different feature that does not solve the problem of a cluttered view.

I would also be interested in a way to collapse folders on the pipelines page in Blue Ocean.

While my setup isn't as large as Eric's (we're looking at 42 jobs with 5 folders), it would be nice to have more control over what the page loads initially.
