When creating a stash to copy files from one stage to another, symbolic links to directories are not stashed and restored as symbolic links but rather they are resolved and the contents of the symbolic link target are duplicated where the symbolic link is in the unstashing job.

I would hazard to guess that this is the wrong thing to do in most cases, or at least more times than not.
