I made a typo when I changed a .zip to .hpi causing hudson to reject the plugin
as invlaid. While it would be great if we could enter a URL, get notifications
of updates, etc (including for Hudson updates). For now it would be nice if
Hudson could do some smarter checking then just file extension which is what I
suspect it does now. As a hpi file is just a zip file it should be able to
check if the file is a zipped file and possibly even that it follows some
      standard layout/has expected core files.

          [JENKINS-1222] Plugin validation is weak

As I expect the most common method of installing plugins is the built in update
center, I'm inclined to close this old issue as wontfix.. is there some use case
in Hudson today where you think better validation would be useful, or is it ok
          to close this? thanks.

The update center is in place. If this becomes an issue again it can be
          addressed.
