trouble uprading Jenkins after using Mac OS X installer

When I install using the Mac OS X installer, I'm unable to do the "easy upgrade" of Jenkins later. When in "Manage Jenkins" I get the "New version of jenkins is available for" download. But I remember, in the past, that there was a way to install this from this page.

I imagine that this is some kind of permissions problem. But shouldn't the installer drop in the files with the right permissions?

      Thanks for any help.

On /systemInfo, what's the value of user.name, user.home, sun.boot.class.path, java.class.path in the System Properties table?

What's the output of hudson.lifecycle.Lifecycle.get() when entered into the Script Console?
