Examples:

• You notice a log recorder is logging much too verbosely, so you reconfigure it, but the existing messages you don't care are still there.
• You want to monitor an important log recorder but always get to see the messages you already know about.

In these cases, it would be helpful to be able to clear a log recorder of all previous log records.
