As we have new nodes being set up the build-timeout plugin is causing our jobs to fail due to the extra amount of time required to checkout the repository on the new machine. I was hoping there would be a way to allow it to exclude the time from this step in the process.

added a comment - Ah I think I understand the problem more now. The job takes a bit more time to complete on a fresh checkout since the build step needs to configure the environment and that is causing it to exceed the timeout. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

You can see what operation take time with timastamps in a log.
Update the summary and description when you find the root cause.

build-timeout-plugin starts its timer after SCM checkout and pre-build phase.
It should never cause timeout during SCM checkout.
Please report more details about the problem you are facing.
