        That one's gonna be a lot simpler - Custom Tools is...weird. I think it doesn't actually install anything without the wrapper? It confused me.

        abayer not sure I understand - you mean nodejs (JENKINS-40624) is simpler? any pointers?

        Yeah, nodejs is simpler - see https://github.com/jenkinsci/jenkins/blob/master/core/src/main/java/hudson/tasks/Maven.java#L487 for something that definitely works.
