I understand that if the names or structure of stages changes sufficiently, old builds are not displayed in the cell table (c.f. JENKINS-38538).

How about creating a new cell table every time the structure changes sufficiently that the current table cannot be used?  The previous jobs under the previous table could then be viewed.
