when viewing a pipeline in blue ocean, please stop auto opening console log of failed step

If I look at multiple pipeline executions by using the "<" or ">" buttons (or any mechanism), the graph starts to draw but then it all disappears because the loading automates opening the build log of a failed step, and most users's build logs are at least a few pages long, which pushes the pipeline visualization off the screen.

This is a poor UI experience. I understand the intent – it's a convenience to bring attention to a failed step, I suppose.

A better user experience would be: highlight the failed stage on the graph, and maybe even highlight the failed 'step' in the list of steps, but leave that step log widget collapsed – don't auto-expand it, which is what is ruining the UI experience.

Yes, please! This is so annoying.

          I agree, it's really annoying

I agree. This slows the UI process especially if there are many steps that fail with a  catchError wrapper.  Another point is that most of the auto open will fail if there are too many. So to be able to suppress it in a pipeline would be great.

I also agree, please change this behavior as suggested in this ticket description.
Waiting for the this fix, please note that in order to see the pipeline graph with less scrolling up, one may click on the top red headband of the failed step and the big log will collapse (Jenkins 2.289.3 with Blue Ocean 1.24.8)
          Cheers

I agree as well. This is a frequent issue for me and is really annoying especially for stages with multiple failed steps. Please change the default behaviour or provide a configuration option to opt out of this behaviour.

I also agree, this is terribly annoying! I report the current status of our pipelines to our engineering team every morning which usually results in a whole lot of "Just a second while I scroll back up, jeez this is annoying...". Plus it's a terrible UI experience to jump to the end of the log for 1 platform in a matrix of platforms in which different platforms potentially have different failures (think test suite).

I suffer from this feature every day. Especially when it reopens those failure steps all the time. If it would be only at the first view, OKAY, I can live with it. But it does it all the time. You open a step above, it jumps down, you try to get up again. It jumps down. If there would be a property to disable this auto opening I would set if to off.

For big projects it is a nightmare. Please prioritize this one. Thanks
