#23349 introduced support for emojis and other non-UTF-8 characters in job names, etc.  While I appreciate the excitement for this support it can cause problems in a corporate environment and [opens the door for potentially misleading and/or malicious URIs|https://krebsonsecurity.com/2018/03/look-alike-domains-and-visual-confusion/].

My ask is for a global setting that can be triggered to disable this support.

[JENKINS-59015] Ability to disable Emojis in Job Names

It seems like it would make more sense to include an alias or tag that allows emojis and then allow that alias or tag to become the "display name" but not affect the URL.

That would work for me, as well.

There is a standard naming strategy extension point which should allow prohibiting emojis.

jbnance does the suggested solution work for you?

Hmm... actually, yes.  When I first glanced at the suggest I thought it would require plugin development.  Sorry for not paying closer attention.
