JENKINS-19022 describes the git plugin's flawed retention of build data from all preceding builds. Users that need to retain many builds from many branches in a single job may run out of memory due to "BuildData bloat".

Use the Jenkins wiki exporter to extract the instructions from the wiki page and submit a pull request to the git plugin README file with that information.
