When I rename a job I should be given the option to reset the build number. Perhaps a checkbox on the page that verifies the user wants to rename the job.
Instead of creating another plugin or updating hudson itself, might just be better to extend the existing Next Build Number plugin to provide this improvement. A better name for the plugin then might be Build Number Plugin whose goal is to provide better build number management.

Would this be a good improvement? If I created a patch, would it be well received and if done correctly does it stand a chance of getting accepted? I liked to do this but don't want to waste my time if doesn't get included into hudson.
