According to the documentation, the "checks" plugin is deprecated and will no longer be maintained, in favor of the "Checks UI" plugin/api:

Is this something that the gerrit-code-review plugin will be able to switch to? I'm a little worried that this plugin was created as a kind of "canonical way" to do this going forward, and now it's making use of deprecated functionality that will not be maintained.
