There is a caret that faces right and is always visible.
There is another caret that faces down and shows up when you hover over the text.
The two carets are too close to each other and present different options.
They could possibly be merged into one to reduce confusion.

Also, the down-facing caret causes UI elements in the nav to slide right when it becomes visible.
This causes some confusion for users as things have moved relative to where their mouse pointer was.
