uppercase ldap groupnames appear to work but don't

with 1.404, ROLE_ and capitalization was removed as a requirement for using ldap groups, requiring you to make the group lowercase now. HOWEVER, if you enter just the groupname in upper case, the group icon shows up even though it was non-functional. i.e.
      ROLE_DELIVERYLEADS used to work
DELIVERYLEADS appears to work (but doesn't)
      deliveryleads does work.
It took me an hour to figure out what was going on- if I enter DELIVERYLEADS, it should either auto-lowercase(if a lower case group of that name exists), or show the red "not found" icon. The help message for this field could also be a bit more clear with this change in functionality.

I ran into this on 1.404, but I didn't see anything in the release notes for newer versions stating this has been dealt with.

      Thanks guys.

In order to set proper expectation, I have unassigned Kohsuke from this tickets.
Currently there is no Default assignee in the LDAP plugin, any contributions will be appreciated.
