      There should be more feedback when the stage node is clicked so communicate that the steps have actually changed.

          brody I am really not that fond of animating this. nothign I have seen (mocked up or otherwise) looks better than what we have already to my eyes, and just seems to slow things down. Would you mind having a think if this is warranted?

          (this is the second time we have tried to implement it, it caused various problems in the past).
