Description
I was trying to setup Jenkins and was creating my first admin user as firstname.lastname. The post completed with status 200 but no user was created after more debug I found out that periods are not allowed in the username but no error was giving. This was not user friendly at all and wasted a lot of my time.

I was using Jenkins ver. 2.143 It's possible this is part of a larger issue that could be on my part because when creating a new item from a github org I get a very weird layout like the following where it appears to load 2 top bars etc.

Any chance to get an error from a full-screen layout or from a system log?
